Program:
extended description
Welcome
talks
Speakers from Réseau Environnement, WEF and the
Young Professionals Summit organizing committee will address the attendees
during breakfast.
The
current state of the water industry – SWOT analysis
The YP Summit is the ideal forum for the water
community to identify its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
(SWOT). This one-hour activity will start with a 10-minute explanation of the
concept of SWOT, followed by an actual SWOT analysis of the various work fields
of the attendees in small groups (30-40 minutes). The results from the small
group discussions will be presented to the whole audience (10-20 minutes). The different
fields of practice will depend on the participants, but are likely to include
wastewater treatment, collection systems, stormwater management, etc.
Panel
discussion on the current state and future of the water industry
Four leading experts representing different
sectors (academia, utilities, government, and consultants) will offer their perspectives
on the SWOT analysis of the water industry. In contrast with the previous session,
the scope is broadened to the whole water sector during this panel discussion,
therefore looking into the challenges and opportunities that should be
addressed by the whole water community.
Speed
networking
The YP Summit aims to promote networking amongst
water professionals. A speed networking activity will thus be organized to
allow participants to meet one another and identify opportunities for
collaboration. At this point, the SWOT analysis is expected to provide
networking ideas and material. Elevator pitches and business cards are favored
tools. The speed networking event will be preceded by a 15 minute talk on how
to network.
High
profile talk – New technologies for resource recovery
The last session of the day is reserved for a
talk about the future of water. As the SWOT analysis and panel discussion allowed
defining the present situation, this session is expected to provide first-hand
insights into what can be achieved in the future.
YP
MAX
Several water associations exist in Canada. At
the moment, Réseau Environnement (RE) does not offer a Young Professionals chapter.
Such chapters exist in other WEF member associations. Experiences from such chapters
are sought to decide on the usefulness of organizing a chapter within RE. Attendees
interested in starting a regional chapter will have a chance to discuss their
interests with the summit organizing committee.
Field
trip
Québec City operates two large wastewater
treatment plants treating the effluent of more than 500 000 inhabitants.
From the control room, the fourteen stormwater tanks and the two WWTPs are
managed. Real-time measurements are coupled to meteorological forecasts and
hydraulic models to control the whole system in an integrated way.
